Elaina & Austyn’s engagement session felt like a love letter—to each other, to shared interests, and to the city of Portland, Oregon. Photographed in a way that let the city speak for itself, their session felt unmistakably Portland.
When we started planning their session, one thing was clear: the locations needed to feel personal. Elaina loves reading, quiet moments, and cozy spaces, so beginning their session at the Multnomah County Central Library was an easy choice. It’s one of my favorite free Portland locations for engagement photos, especially for couples who want something timeless and intimate.

Inside the library, everything slowed down. The tall shelves, warm tones, and quiet atmosphere created such a calm, romantic setting. For this portion of the session, I leaned into a more vintage editing style—soft warmth, subtle grain, and muted contrast—to enhance the cozy feel of the space.
Elaina & Austyn shared quiet moments tucked between the bookshelves, reading side by side and stealing glances when they thought no one was looking. These images feel intimate and timeless, like something pulled straight from the pages of a favorite novel. Photographing them here felt especially meaningful—it was a space that reflected Elaina so naturally, and that connection shows in the photos.

After our time downtown, we headed to Irving Park to finish the session. The afternoon was brisk—classic Portland—but the sun came through just enough to warm everything up.
Irving Park offered a completely different energy from the library. Open space, fallen leaves, and soft autumn light gave Elaina & Austyn room to move, laugh, and just be themselves. This part of the session felt playful and relaxed as they walked the paths hand in hand, kicked through leaves, and enjoyed the quiet beauty of the park.

Austyn’s love for the outdoors really came through here. Being outside allowed him to loosen up and lean into the moment, while Elaina matched his energy with ease. They played in the leaves, laughed freely, and shared genuine moments that felt completely unforced—exactly the kind of connection I aim to capture.

The Multnomah County Central Library and Irving Park are both free, centrally located, and offer two completely different moods—making them perfect for couples who want variety without overcomplicating their session. Starting with something cozy and intimate, then ending with open air and movement, creates a gallery that feels full, balanced, and true to who you are.
As a Portland wedding photographer, my approach is documentary, romantic, and rooted in real connection. Your engagement photos should feel like you—not staged, not rushed, and not a curated version of your love.
If you’re planning Portland engagement photos and looking for free Portland locations that feel meaningful and timeless, I’d love to help you create something just as intentional.
